According to the women, as members of farmer groups, they are able to access support from one another easily; whether financial support through savings or helping one another on their farms.
Furthermore, they are able to share ideas on how to improve their farming activities, such as, ways to increase market accessibility; transportation services; how to access tractor and mechanization services, and add value to their harvests through agri-processing.
They said working together in groups also empowers them, and makes it quite easy for them to access communal support and sometimes, external interventions from developmental organizations and NGO’s, like Agrihouse Foundation.

Speaking to these women on their farms, as part of shooting the Gold in the Soil Awards documentary, they listed community farming groups such as, Suntaanutaa Women Farmers and Marketing Society; Kanyire Women farmers; Songtaa Tietaa Enterprise; Sumbo-Push Women; and Suntaanutaa Farming Group.
The leader of Songtaa Tietaa Enterprise, Madam Anita Sutha said, her vision is for the women she works with to become financially independent, as they enhance their skills though farming and agri-processing. She leads the women in growing crops such as maize, millet, cashews, sheabutter groundnut, rice, and cowpeas, among others. As part of value addition efforts, they process these crops into products and package them neatly for the markets. In light of this, the women are able to make money to support their families, as well as save.
Madam Portia Gban, who is the leader of Sumbo-Push Women, said she is able to provide market, mechanization and input supply services for the women she works with. She ensures that the group meets regularly to discuss their challenges and brainstorm solutions together. As a result, the women are doing well on their farms, and it is reflecting in the positive changes they are being able to make in their lives; such as put up buildings, save in banks, pay school fees for their children and generally, support their households.
As respective groups, the women thanked Agrihouse Foundation and sponsors for the annual Women in Food and Leadership Training Forum (WOFAGRIC), and Gold in the Soil Awards, describing it as a laudable initiative that empowers and encourages women farmers in the country to continue striving forward in the agricultural sector.
