The Minister-Designate for the Ministry of Food and Agriculture, Hon. Eric Opoku, has pledged to tackle the challenges crippling Ghana’s poultry sector through a targeted initiative dubbed the Poultry Farm to the Table Programme.
During his vetting in Parliament yesterday, Mr. Opoku described the poultry industry as being “in crisis” and emphasized the urgent need for intervention. He outlined a detailed plan aimed at empowering poultry farmers with financial resources to boost production and expand their operations.
“To revamp the poultry sector, we have outlined a program in our manifesto called the ‘Poultry Farm to the Table Programme.’ Under this initiative, we aim to collaborate with poultry farmers’ associations, providing them with the necessary financial resources to expand their businesses and increase production,” Hon. Opoku revealed .
He also identified the high cost of poultry feed as a major obstacle hindering the growth of the industry. He pledged to prioritize the production of affordable feed as part of his plan to ease the financial strain on farmers and stimulate increased productivity in the sector.
