Agrihouse Foundation, through its annual Gathering of the Royals initiative, has introduced the Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings Legacy Honours, a prestigious award scheme dedicated to recognizing and celebrating the outstanding contributions of women excelling in leadership, agribusiness, and rural development while championing women’s empowerment.
Named after Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, former First Lady of Ghana and a lifelong advocate for women’s rights and economic empowerment, this award seek to honor exceptional women who have made and continue to make significant impacts in agriculture, education, governance, and community development. The awards will recognize women who are driving positive change in their communities, regions, and beyond.
This will be one of the key highlight of this year’s 7th Gathering of the Royals, scheduled to take place on Wednesday March 12, 2025, at the GNAT Hall in Accra, under the theme:“Seeds of Change: Honoring Leadership, Inspiring Hope, and Strengthening Women to Innovatively Enhance Our Agrifood Future,”
It will bring together over 116 queen mothers involved in agriculture, along with 365 women farmers, market queen mothers, farm associations, and agricultural value chain actors ,policymakers, stakeholders ,financial institutions , input and machinery dealers among others from across 16 regions of Ghana .
Speaking at the launch of the 7th Gathering of the Royals and the Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings Legacy Honours, the Executive Director of Agrihouse Foundation, Alberta Nana Akyaa Akosa, emphasized the importance of the awards:
”The Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings Legacy Awards will serve as an enduring tribute to a woman whose vision and dedication transformed the landscape of women’s empowerment in Ghana and beyond. Through these awards, we aim to spotlight women whose work continues to inspire and drive change in rural communities.
The Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings Legacy Awards seeks to honor a woman who fights to the end just like the meaning of her name, KO-NA-DU (fight to the end). This award is for every woman who, despite constant challenges and difficulties, continues to push forward.
It will annually recognize a woman who fails in her quest to succeed but rises, falls, rises again, and ultimately triumphs. She is a true ‘Ko-na-du’she stated ..
This year’s 7th Gathering of the Royals will provide an opportunity for traditional rulers, queen mothers, and agribusiness leaders to engage in discussions on key issues affecting the agricultural sector, including women’s leadership, agribusiness financing, and rural development policies.
