Highlighting the potential of agriculture as a catalyst for economic growth, Hon. Gomedo Yaw stated that, with the right Government support, agriculture can become a sustainable and inclusive source of economic development, adding that investing in agriculture can also have positive impacts on food security and nutrition, particularly for vulnerable populations and ensuring access to adequate and affordable nutritious food, especially in rural areas.
In an interview with Agriwatch Gh news,Hon. Gomedo Yaw further emphasized the need for Government investment in key areas such as agricultural infrastructure, research and extension services, access to credit and financial services, training and capacity building, value addition and agribusiness development, as well as social protection and safety nets. He added that these measures can help farmers in the Akan constituency and the whole country to adopt modern and sustainable agricultural practices, overcome financial barriers, and create value-added opportunities along the agricultural value chain.
He however urged the Government to prioritize and invest in agriculture as a key strategy for creating employment opportunities, fostering inclusive and sustainable development in the country.
As the Government faces the challenge of meeting the food security needs of the country’s growing population and driving economic growth, stakeholders ,Community Leaders and Policymakers are urging for greater attention to be given to Agriculture. With the potential to contribute significantly to economic development, job creation, and food security.
