Dr. Comfort Acheampong, the Coordinator, for the Ghana National Egg Campaign Secretariat, has been appointed as the Chairperson for the 3rd edition of the annual Ghana Chicken Festival – GHA-CHICK.
To be held at the fore court of the state house,in July 1, 2023, the GHA-CHICK festival has since its initiation, contributed immensely to advocating for the patronage and consumption of locally produced Chicken, Poultry value chain products as well as promoting the nutritional benefits of consuming our poultry.
The Festival has also led to, over 200 direct participants learning about how healthier our local chicken is, due to its fewer toxins, less fat and the great amount of Vitamin D.
Many participants of the festival, have also been exposed to the anticancer properties and lower cholesterol that our chicken possess.
The Festival has supported in Sensitizing participants on the safety, best practices, nutritional levels and benefits of our locally bred chicken.
Dr. Acheampong is expected to lead the Technical and offer strategic direction, in the organization of the 1 -day event.
Other Members of the Planning Committee, to assist Dr. Acheampong, include, Mr Alfred Appiah, Secretary of the National Farmers and Fishermen Awards Winners Association of Ghana, Madam Victoria Norgbey, President of Women in Poultry Value Chain, Nana Hemaa Afia Darko, Queen Mother of Kyidom, Suhum Traditional Area, Florence Tomazia Cossou, Managing Director of Mazia Company, Miss Adeline Koramoah, Managing Director of Koradel Enterprise Mr. Asiwome Biekro, communications and Marketing Specialist, Mr. Victor Oppong Adjei, President of the Ghana Poultry Farmers Association and representatives from the Ministry of Food and Agriculture.
Accepting her Chairperson position, Dr. Acheampong said, the Poultry industry is one, that she is most passionate about and has been promoting and embarking on various campaigns for years now. She believes that the festival is a celebration of the hard work and dedication of poultry farmers across the country as well as promoting the consumption and purchase of our poultry.
She further noted that since this year’s festival is bringing policy makers on board, it will be a limestone to project the Ghana Chicken Festival as a national annual event with the aim of helping the country’s poultry sector and also help reduce the importation of poultry product into the country.
Alberta Nana Akyaa Akosa, Executive Director of Agrihouse Foundation, Organizers of the annual Ghana Chicken Festival, noted that this year’s event will have Members of Parliaments coupled with some officials from other political parties to champion and lead the drive and advocacy for the consumption of our local Chicken.
In this regard, the sixteen selected MP’s would participate in a cooking competition by preparing Various Chicken Meals for sampling as part of the move to champion this all in one agenda. The Festival will also feature varieties of activities including live band, cultural display, games and many other interesting activities.
