The Eastern Regional Director of Agriculture, Hajia Habiba has emphasized the need for increased empowerment of women in agriculture.
Speaking at the launch of the fifth edition of the Women in Food and Agricultural Forum (WOFAGRIC) and Gold in the Soil Awards, she highlighted the importance of providing women with the necessary support and opportunities to excel in the agricultural sector.
She said Ghana’s agricultural landscape could witness a significant increase in women’s participation, if they are given equal access and opportunities in agriculture.
By recognizing the invaluable contributions of women in the agricultural sector, she called for concerted efforts to empower and uplift them, enabling them to fully contribute to the country’s agricultural development.
During her speech, she also expressed her gratitude to the Agrihouse Foundation and its partners for organizing the 5th annual WOFAGRIC and Gold in the Soil Awards in the Eastern Region. She commended their efforts in recognizing and celebrating the achievements of women farmers and agribusinesses.
The Regional Agric Director, urged all women farmers, including those with disabilities, to actively participate in the WOFAGRIC and Gold in the Soil Awards. She encouraged them to showcase their work, expertise, and contributions towards ensuring food security in the country. She emphasized that the event provides an excellent platform for women to be acknowledged and awarded for their exceptional work in the agricultural sector.
The WOFAGRIC and Gold in the Soil Awards have become important annual events that highlight the significance of women’s contributions to agriculture and provide a platform for knowledge sharing, networking, and recognition. The Eastern Regional Director of Agriculture urged all stakeholders, including government, private sector entities, and civil society organizations, to continue supporting initiatives that empower and uplift women in agriculture.
She also reiterated the importance of empowering women in agriculture to achieve sustainable agricultural development. She called for collective efforts in creating an enabling environment that promotes gender equality and provides women with equal access to resources, training, and opportunities in the agricultural sector. By doing so, Ghana can harness the full potential of its agricultural landscape and ensure food security for its growing population.
The 5th edition of the Women in Food and Agricultural Forum (WOFAGRIC) and Gold in the Soil Awards, to be held on 26th to 27th July 2023 in the eastern region will provide a platform for women to showcase their achievements, learn from each other, and contribute to the development of the agricultural sector.
