Torgbe Klusti Butamekpor, the Chief of Labuano, a farming community in the Oti Region of Ghana, is calling on the government to provide more support for farmers in the area.
Labuano is renowned for producing cocoa, cassava, plantain, cocoyam, and banana. However, according to the chief , farmers in the community are struggling to make a living from farming due to several challenges, including the poor road network that makes it difficult for buyers to access the community and purchase produce.
In a statement, Torgbe Klusti Butamekpor emphasized the importance of government supporting farmers, adding that farmers are the backbone of Ghana’s economy. He urged the government to establish a proper market system that would enable farmers to sell their produce at fair prices. He believes that this would help address the difficulties faced by farmers in his community and other farming communities across Ghana.
Many farmers in Ghana are facing various challenges, including climate change, pests, and diseases, and inadequate infrastructure. While the government has implemented some initiatives to support farmers, more action is needed to ensure that farmers can thrive and contribute to the growth of the country’s economy.
The lack of government assistance has made it difficult for farmers to earn a decent living, and this has created confusion among the youth about the viability of farming. Torgbe Klusti Butamekpor encouraged the youth to remain committed to farming and work hard to overcome the challenges they are facing.
Torgbe Klusti Butamekpor‘s call for more support for farmers, echoes similar concerns raised by other farming communities across Ghana. It is hoped that the government will take swift action to address these concerns and ensure that farmers can continue to play a vital role in the country’s economy.
