The flagbearer of the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG), Kofi Akpaloo has expressed his sincere appreciation to our farmers and fisherfolk for their hard work and commitment to the cause of building Mother Ghana over the years.
According to him the role of agriculture in transforming any economy and nation is vital.
However, the agriculture sector has been largely neglected under the both NPP and NDC governments over the last 24 years. Budgetary allocation to the sector has been reducing consistently.
“…I wish to assure our farmers and fisherfolk that the blessing of oil will not distract an Kofi Akpaloo -led LPG government from growing the agricultural sector and making it more modern, more efficient and therefore, more productive. Access to finance, improved training and technology, reducing post-harvest losses, extending feeder roads and farm tracts to as many farm gates as possible, increasing irrigation facilities, and guaranteeing markets for our farm produce are going to be the nucleus of this approach,” Kofi Akpaloo told Accra-based Atinka TV
According to him, his government would endeavour to offer the needed support to ensure that the region remained a major player in food production in the country if voted for as President in 2024.
Kofi Akpaloo has been calling for more investment in smallholder agriculture as he highlights how climate change impacts smallholder farmers more severely than their colleagues engaged in commercial farming.
