Farmers at Ago a farming community in the Nkwanta North district in Oti Region are lamenting over the increase in prices of the agro chemicals needed for farming. According to them they are not able to buy Agro -chemicals for farming due to high cost.
in an interview with www.agriwatch.com , konja kojo a farmer and resident of Ago, stated that most people in the community are farmers but remain poor due to the high cost of agro -chemical. he added that the price of fertilizer that was sold for 80 Ghana cedis is now being sold for 150 Ghana cedis making it difficult to buy, adding that those who are able to buy use little amount for a large piece of land which affect productivity and income.
According to him, farming in the community is not as lucrative as it was a decade ago, because farmers in the country are getting more poorer instead of becoming rich, making the youth leave the community in search of white-collar jobs.
They are however calling on the Ministry of Food and Agriculture and the Government and other benevolent organizations to come to their aid.
