The Kintampo Divisional Police Command in the Bono East Region has apprehended two individuals for allegedly attempting to smuggle over 150 bags of cocoa beans to Burkina Faso.
The suspects, identified as Paul Milungu, 26, and Mohammed Bagaya, 22, both Burkinabès, were taken into custody in Portor, a suburb of Kintampo, following a tip-off.
Police reports indicate that the suspects had loaded the cocoa beans, concealed with several packs of black polythene bags and used (second-hand) clothing, into a DAF Cargo truck bearing the registration number 3166D306. The truck had reportedly departed from Kwame Nkrumah Circle in Accra and was en-route to Burkina Faso.
The arrest was made after the truck made a stop in Portor for the suspects to rest. A vigilant Ghanaian citizen, noticing suspicious activity, tipped off the police. Acting swiftly on the information, officers intercepted the truck and arrested the two individuals.
Investigations into the case are ongoing to uncover further details about the smuggling attempt.
