Ubunja is a rural community that depends solely on farming for their livelihood. However, the roads from their farms to the market is in a terrible state, making it difficult for farmers to get their farm produce to the market. The high cost of agrochemicals is also a major challenge, as the farmers cannot afford to purchase the necessary inputs for their farming activities.
Farmers in the community have also expressed their frustration over the lack of support from the Government, adding that , farming in the community is not as lucrative it was a decade ago, because farmers in the country are getting more poorer instead of becoming rich, making the youth leave the community in search of white-collar jobs.
The residents are calling on the government to provide them with the necessary support to help improve their livelihood ,farming practices ,increase their yields and also promote the growth of the agricultural sector.
The situation in Ubunja is not unique, as many farmers across the country are facing similar challenges. To address these issues, the government must take action to provide support to farmers in rural communities. This can be achieved by providing farmers with access to affordable agrochemicals, improving infrastructure such as roads, and providing training and education on modern farming techniques.
