President John Dramani Mahama has appointed Dr. Ransford Abbey as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD). The announcement was made official in a letter dated January 21, 2025.
The letter, signed by Dr. Callistus Mahama, Secretary to the President, stated:
“Dr. Abbey’s appointment is effective immediately and will remain in place pending the constitutionally required advice of the COCOBOD Board, in consultation with the Public Services Commission.”

Dr. Abbey’s appointment underscores the government’s dedication to strengthening COCOBOD, a key institution at the heart of Ghana’s economy. As CEO, he will be responsible for guiding the organization’s strategic direction and ensuring the effective regulation, production, and marketing of cocoa, the country’s leading export commodity.
