The Member of Parliament for the Korle Klottey Constituency, Hon. Dr. Zanetor Agyeman Rawlings, has noted that, in as much we are looking to make the most of agriculture, in the areas of yield and profit, as a country, we should also pay attention to the nutritional values the sector provides.
She said, in these times of COVID-19, we must all pay extra attention to the meals we are consuming and ensure they are providing us with the nutritional supplements our body needs to fight the virus when infected.
According to Dr. Zanetor Agyeman Rawlings, Ghana’s agricultural sector must also begin to research into how nutritional or food supplements can be developed from the food crops we produce.
According to her, the vitamins and nutritional supplements producing industry is a global multibillion industry, and it’s about time Ghana paid attention to the sector and started investing in it.
“Baobab contains hundred plus times, more vitamin c than oranges; why have we not created baobab capsules? Why are we not producing organic baobabs specifically for the supplement industry?” she stressed.
Dr. Agyeman Rawlings made these comments yesterday, at the launch of the fourth edition of the fourth edition of the Agricultural Students Career Guidance and Mentorship Dialogue Bootcamp (AG-STUD), organized annually by Agrihouse Foundation.
She therefore used to opportunity to compliment Agrihouse Foundation for leading the way, by identifying and investing in young people who are passionate about agriculture and introducing them to creative and innovative ways of operating in the agricultural industry.
She said AG-STUD is a sustainable, profitable and worthwhile initiative because it empowers the Ghanaian agri-youth with practical knowledge that enables him or her to make money and also put food on our tables in the country.
