Paramount Chief of Salifu Krom, a farming community in the Nkwanta South Municipality of the Oti Region, Nana Amenyo Kwaku Begyina I, is appealing to the government, Agric stakeholders and non-governmental organizations to provide financial support to farmers in the area.
Speaking in an interview with agriwatchgh, Nana Amenyo Kwaku Begyina I, stated that people in Salifu Krom are mainly into farming of cocoa, maize ,cassava, plantain and cocoyam.
According to the chief, farmers in the area, do not get any support from the government, making them struggle to make ends meet, which is really affecting and discouraging the young ones who are interested in farming from venturing into agriculture .
He added that some of the growing concerns of the farmers in the area are the deplorable roads, the non-existence of bridges linking one community to the other, poor road network and the unavailability of agrochemicals and fertilizers among other farm inputs.
he however urged authorities to prioritize agriculture and support farmers, particularly those in his community, in order for them to produce high yields.
The chief went on to say that if the government wants the youth to work in agriculture, it must take steps to provide incentives.
