The Minister for Trade, Industry and Agribusiness, Hon. Elizabeth Ofosu- Adjare has reiterated government commitment to implement the 24-hour economy programme.
She believes that this will be a major boost to the country’s import substitution and export drive agenda. The Minister made these remarks in meeting with one of the teams spearheading various projects and programmes at the Ministry.
Mr. Kofi Addo, a Director at the Ministry, took the Hon. Minister through a presentation on the One District One Factory since its implementation in 2017.He explained the policy concept, core principles, criteria for acceptance, the companies operating under the 1D1F, status of implementation, breakdown of the various sectors under the program, successes chalked, challenges and the way forward.
Mr. Kofi Addo revealed that, Ghana adopted the five development priorities of the African Development Bank which is popularly known as the High 5s. These are Light up and Power Africa, Feed Africa, Industrialize Africa, Integrate Africa, and Improve the Quality of Life for the People of Africa.
He added that the 1D1F was one of the main components of the Government’s Industrialization Plan which among other things was intended to create employment opportunities particularly for the youth in rural and He called for the selection of priority sectors for the 24-Hour Economy, the conduct of a demand assessment of raw materials for the priority sectors, and engagement and selection of about 40 companies to start the implementation of the 24-Hour Economy.
The Minister appreciated the detailed presentation by the Director and promised to engage the Minister for Finance in coming days concerning the implementation of the government’s Industrialization Development Programme and the 24 hour economy.
