In a strategic move to enhance Ghana’s export sector, the Ghana Export Promotion Authority has proposed the establishment of an innovative joint task force in collaboration with the Federation of Associations of Ghanaian Exporters and the Ghana Shippers Authority.
This initiative aims to tackle critical tariff challenges at the ports, streamline export processes, and strengthen the country’s trade competitiveness.
The decision emerged during a high-level meeting between the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Export Promotion Authority, Francis Kojo Kwarteng Arthur, and the President of the Federation of Associations of Ghanaian Exporters, Davis Korboe, alongside corporate members of the federation.
The discussions centered on key barriers affecting Ghanaian exporters, including high port tariffs, export financing constraints, and post-harvest losses, particularly for perishable commodities like yam.
Recognizing the need for sustainable solutions, Francis Kojo Kwarteng Arthur emphasized the importance of capacity building, the development of disease-resistant crops, and adherence to international technical standards to boost the global market appeal of Ghanaian products.
He underscored the need for stronger collaboration between exporters and regulatory authorities to improve trade efficiency.
The proposed joint task force will focus on advocating for tariff reductions and favorable trade policies, enhancing logistics through consolidated shipping and improved airline partnerships, addressing spoilage issues by advancing preservation and storage techniques, and leveraging Ghana’s 24-hour economy to optimize export operations.
With a shared commitment to fostering a more competitive export environment, the collaboration between the Ghana Export Promotion Authority, the Federation of Associations of Ghanaian Exporters, and the Ghana Shippers Authority is expected to drive significant improvements in trade facilitation, benefiting exporters and the national economy.
