The Minister for Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Hon. Abla Dzifa Gomashie, has applauded Agrihouse Foundation for its consistent and passionate advocacy for Ghana’s agricultural development, with special recognition for its efforts in promoting the poultry sector.
Delivering her remarks at the 5th Ghana Poultry Day celebration, held at the forecourt of the State House in Accra, the Minister called on stakeholders across the agriculture value chain to prioritize investment in local poultry production. She described Ghana’s current dependence on imported poultry as a drain on national resources and a missed opportunity to build sustainable domestic systems.
“I commend Agrihouse Foundation for continuously championing the cause of Ghana’s agriculture sector. Their work in supporting the poultry industry deserves national recognition,” Hon. Gomashie said.
Hon. Gomashie emphasized that poultry farming is more than an economic activity—it represents a cornerstone of cultural identity. She urged Ghanaians to see poultry production as an act of national pride, contributing to food sovereignty, rural job creation, and the preservation of traditional cuisine.
The Minister reaffirmed her Ministry’s commitment to working closely with Agrihouse Foundation and other stakeholders to develop agritourism as a tool to connect agriculture with culture, entrepreneurship, and economic transformation.
“Poultry farming is not just about producing meat and eggs—it’s about cultural pride,” she noted. “If we’re spending millions to import poultry, then surely that same amount can be used to strengthen our systems here.”
She further encouraged Ghanaians to support locally produced poultry and urged policymakers to implement stronger incentives for homegrown producers, particularly youth and women-led enterprises.
