TechnoServe, a leader in business solutions to poverty, has launched the implementation of grant support for agri-SMEs and microentrepreneurs along the poultry, tomato, rice, and soybean value chains in Ghana.
The kickoff event, held at the Golden Bean Hotel in Kumasi, marks a key milestone under the Mastercard Foundation’s Harnessing Agricultural Productivity and Prosperity for Youth (HAPPY) Program, delivered in partnership with Agri-Impact Limited.
The two-day event provided insights into how agribusinesses can contribute to job creation while leveraging the grant opportunities available through the project. It brought together key players in Ghana’s agribusiness space, including industry experts, academia, and implementing partners of the HAPPY Program.
92 microentrepreneurs and 19 agri-SMEs have been selected as part of the first cohort of the grant support.
The four-year HAPPY Program aims to create 326,000 dignified jobs for Ghanaian youth—especially young women and persons with disabilities—within the targeted value chains. It focuses on youth aged 15–35 and is delivered by an eight-member consortium, including Newage Agric Solutions, National Service Authority (NSA), Ghana CARES (MiDA), Ghana Enterprises Agency (GEA), Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MoFA), TechnoServe, Catholic Relief Services (CRS), and Jobberman.
Since its roll-out in December 2023, the program has already created thousands of job opportunities, signaling major progress in youth employment and agribusiness transformation.
