The Volta Regional Minister, Mr James Gunu on Thursday, February 6, has announced plans to increase security in the region.
He made this known when he had an engagement with the Standing Committee of the Volta Regional House of Chiefs to discuss some of the pressing challenges facing the beloved region.
One of the main important discussion points during the engagement was the increasing security checkpoints in the region.
He says he listened to concerns regarding their impact on movement and economic activity and assured them that “we will work with relevant authorities to ensure a streamlined and effective system that promotes both security and ease of travel.”
Mr Gunu further said that the meeting was insightful, reinforcing the strong partnership between my office and our revered traditional leaders as we work towards a better, more sustainable Volta Region.
One of the other key concerns raised was the ongoing water crisis affecting several communities.
He assured our esteemed chiefs that my administration is prioritizing sustainable solutions to address this urgent issue.
“Plans are already in motion to improve infrastructure and enhance access to clean water across the region,” he said.
The meeting also touched on major infrastructural projects.
Togbe Koku Dzaga XI, Paramount Chief of Klefe Traditional Area, stressed the importance of completing the Eastern Corridor Road and developing the Keta Harbor, which would significantly boost trade, tourism, and job creation.
In reaction to this comment, Mr Gunu said in a Facebook post after the meeting that “I fully align with this vision and remain committed to advocating for these transformational projects.”
In the area of education, he said it remains a critical pillar of the development.
“We discussed the need for improving student performance at the senior high school level, particularly to increase the number of students qualifying for medical school.
“Investing in education is investing in our future, and I will continue working with stakeholders to enhance academic excellence in our region.
“I am grateful for the wisdom and guidance of our traditional rulers, and I fully support the call for leadership training for chiefs to further equip them in governance and community development.

I remain steadfast in my commitment to serving the people of Volta, and together, we will build a stronger, more prosperous future.”
