Government will build 60 hectare irrigated lands that will have water for all year round tomato production with processing initiatives to prevent glut and also ensure adequate tomato supply on the Ghana market.
“Its not enough to grow tomatos, it’s necessary to put in place processing capacity so we won’t have tomato glut like other products” he explained.
The President of the Republic John Dramani Mahama stated this at the Kwahu Business Forum at Mpreaso in the Eastern Region on Saturday on Saturday April 4th 2026.
At the forum , the Hon. Minister for Trade, Agribusiness and Industry, Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, highlighted the pivotal role of the African Continental Free Trade Area Secretariat in advancing Ghana’s industrialisation and trade agenda, stressing the need for the country to set the pace in intra-African commerce.

She noted that Ghana’s position as host of the Secretariat places a responsibility on the country to translate continental trade policies into real opportunities for businesses.
“Underpinning all of this is our Africa Continental Free Trade Area Secretariat. Ghana carries a particular responsibility to demonstrate what intra-African trade can deliver in practice,” she said.
The Minister explained that the government is taking steps to prepare local businesses to compete effectively within the African market by improving access to key trade tools and information.
“We are working to ensure that Ghanaian enterprises have access to rules of origin certification, tariff intelligence, and market linkages necessary to compete and win in the continental market,” she added.
She cautioned that policy measures alone would not be sufficient without strong private sector participation.
“None of these policies will deliver their intended outcome without private sector partnership with government”.
Hon. Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare further said the theme for the forum ” The Future of Business Scaling up local Enterprise reflects a precise diagnosis of where Ghana stands in its industrial development which demonstrate that Ghanaian entrepreneurs are capable of building viable enterprises across processing manufacturing, services and trade.
The Hon. Minister pointed out that the Ministry is advancing the revitalization of the special economic zones repositioning them as active industrial ecosystems geared towards agro processing and light manufacturing rather than passive export enclaves.
Other activities of the 2026 Kwahu Business Forum included exhibition tours and a series of panel discussions focused on key economic sectors.
