Agrihouse Foundation has officially announced the holding of this year’s edition of the Gathering of the Royals, an initiative that brings together over six hundred Queen mothers across the nation.
This year’s 8th edition will be held on Tuesday March 31, 2026, at Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) Hall, Accra, under the theme “Seeds of Change: From Leadership to Legacy – Women transforming the agrifood systems.”
The Gathering of the Royals over the past eight years has remained the leading platform for in-depth dialogue and action-oriented discussions among Queen Mothers, traditional leaders and policymakers, who are spearheading growth and development in the Agricultural value chain within their respective Regions.
Speaking during a press briefing held on Monday March 16, 2026, at the Agrihouse Foundation premises, the Executive Chair and Founder, Alberta Nana Akyaa Akosa said this year’s edition would be marked by strengthening commitment to action to reach more people through the various queen mothers across the sixteen regions.
She emphasized that last year’s 7th edition committed to a call-to-Action which sought to support young people from the Queen mothers’ respective communities with day-old chicks to build their own poultry farming businesses with training and capacity building.
According to her, by strengthening and broadening the impacts of the initiative over the years, this year’s edition will honour last year’s Call-to-Action to impact more young people.
“last year, we made a call-to-action where our Queen mothers from all the sixteen Regions would lead in mobilizing about one hundred young people from their communities to be given day-old chicks to establish their own poultry farms with support from our stakeholders, and also be supported with the needed knowledge and training to help in exploring opportunities in the value chain.” she stated.
Prior to this year’s move, the Gathering of the Royals has enabled Queen Mothers to secure development partner support, including a cassava processing machine which helped in boosting agricultural productivity in the Oti Region precisely. Yara Ghana supported women farmers, and women farmers with disabilities with fertilizers across 7 regions, as well as, OCP Africa’s Agribooster module which enabled farmers to test soils and select appropriate crops and planting times, she added.
Ms Akosa highlighted that following and committing to United Nations’ declaration of this year, 2026, as the “International Year of the Woman Farmer,” Agrihouse Foundation is committed to supporting women farmers, and women farmers with disabilities working with the foundation.
The press briefing was graced by three Queen mothers including Queen mother of Kayera in the Ofinso Traditional Area of the Ashanti Region, Nana Amma Serwaa Bonsu; Akalifa Seidu Azara of Taayili Yenchi from the Northern Region; and the Manye of Santor of the Greater Accra Region, Naa Borley Ehile Keke I. There were also representatives of some partner institutions such as the Ministry of Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Ministry of Food and Agriculture, Greater Accra Regional Agric Directorate, Glico Group Limited, Zenith Bank, and among others.
Nana Amma Serwaa Bonsu who also serves as the President of Queen Mothers Foundation, commended Agrihouse Foundation for instituting this initiative that recognizes the role of traditional leaders in the agricultural value chain and pledged their full support in making this year’s 8th edition successful.
The Principal Registrar at the Ministry of Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Angelina Essieh Tommar reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to supporting the initiative as it remains the leading platform that recognizes the strategic role of Queen mothers in the agricultural sector.
The Deputy Agric Officer of the Greater Accra Coordinating Council, Rogatta Antwi-Baah hailed Agrihouse Foundation for their active role and impact in the agricultural sector, and reinforced the council’s support for the initiative.
Southern Sector Managing Director for Glico Group Limited, Mr. Emmanuel Parker Nyarko highlighted the importance and role of the Gathering of the Royals initiative in Ghana’s agricultural sector, as it seeks to discuss and address long standing issues within the sector, making it a noble course that is worth championing, restating the company’s commitment to supporting the initiative.
