The Minister-Designate for Trade, Agribusiness, and Industry, Elizabeth Ofosu-Agyare, has outlined her vision to transform the One District, One Factory (1D1F) initiative through the implementation of President John Dramani Mahama’s 24-hour economy policy.
During her vetting before Parliament’s Appointments Committee today, Ofosu-Agyare identified the lack of sufficient raw materials as a critical challenge undermining the success of the 1D1F program, introduced by former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo. She asserted that the 24-hour economy policy would address these gaps by fostering a more efficient and sustainable approach to raw material production.
“I see the solution in the 24-hour economy because, under this policy, businesses will receive the necessary support to thrive. Agribusiness will play a key role, with commercial contract farming providing a reliable supply of raw materials to factories across the country,” she explained.
The 24-hour economy policy is designed to create a continuous cycle of economic activity, encouraging industries and agribusinesses to operate round the clock. She emphasized that integrating this framework with 1D1F would not only ensure the availability of raw materials but also enhance productivity, create jobs, and drive economic growth in local communities.
