Under the program, growers can receive support of €3,000 (US$3,450) per hectare.
The total budget allocated to the scheme is 60 million lei (US$13.1 million), with payments scheduled to be completed by December 22, 2026.
Deputy Prime Minister Tánczos Barna said the support measure was introduced in response to the sector’s negative trade balance.
According to the government, the program applies to production areas of at least 3,000 square metres and a maximum of six hectares per beneficiary.
To qualify, growers must achieve a minimum production level of 3.5 tons per hectare.
The scheme is open to both individual growers and legal entities involved in agricultural production.
Registration applications must be submitted within 10 days following adoption of the decision.
The government also stated that support programs for potato production will continue, with the sector affected by increasing imports.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture, the support measures are intended to help maintain employment in rural areas and encourage younger generations to enter agriculture.
