Corteva plans to launch a new soybean herbicide for the 2027 growing season. Enclosa herbicide features a combination of a proprietary encapsulated acetochlor (Group 15) and cloransulam (Group 2).
“Multiple modes of action are more important than ever to effectively manage weeds and mitigate the spread of herbicide resistance,” said Drake Robards portfolio marketing lead for soybean herbicides at Corteva, in a news release. “We’ve seen the power encapsulated acetochlor brings to the tank. The addition of cloransulam will enable farmers to tackle tough weeds and reduce the threat of resistance.”
Enclosa will have an application window from preplant through postemergence. It can also be used as a burndown application with no plant-back restrictions ahead of soybeans.
The product will offer four weeks of residual control on 21 broadleaf weeds and 15 grass weeds when applied preemergence. Applied postemergence, Enclosa will provide up to four weeks of residual control on key emerged broadleaf weeds.
Enclosa features a ZC formulation — combining a capsule suspension and a suspension concentrate.
“Growers don’t like dry products,” said Eric Scherder, national agronomy lead for herbicides and nitrogen stabilizers for Corteva. “So we’re bringing in a suspension concentrate and that’s where that ZC formulation comes in. Taking that encapsulated with that suspension concentrate to build something that plays well together, handles well for the growers, and gives a good experience when you’re spraying it.”
Enclosa has been granted EPA approval and is in the process of receiving state approvals. Sales are expected to start later this year for use in the 2027 growing season.
“We intentionally brought it in what I call that mid-tier price point,” Scherder said. “We’ve got some really premium pre[emergence herbicides] with six to eight weeks of residual. This product, we’re not looking for six to eight weeks. That four weeks of residual activity is what we’re trying to deliver very cost effectively for that customer.”
