The Fisheries Commission, through its Marine Fisheries Management Division (MFMD), held a quarterly stakeholder engagement with trawler fishing vessel operators on Tuesday, 27th October 2026, at the NAFAG Hall in Tema.

The engagement provided a platform to discuss key issues affecting trawl fisheries, including gear selectivity and catchability survey report, documentation required for fishing license applications, license renewal and fees, submission of catch returns, and the welfare of fisheries observers.

Participants also received updates on the Ministerial Directive on fishing gear, with discussions aimed at strengthening communication, compliance with fisheries regulations, and collaboration between the Commission and industry operators.

The Fisheries Commission remains committed to constructive stakeholder engagement to promote responsible fishing practices and the sustainable management of Ghana’s fisheries resources.

The Fisheries Commission is the implementing agency of the Ministry of Fisheries and Aquaculture (MoFA). We are constituted to be the actualizing force behind policies and regulations established by MoFA.

We are therefore responsible for all monitoring, control, surveillance, evaluation, and compliance functions in all areas of Fisheries development and management in Ghana, including Fish Health, Post-Harvest activities, and Safety and Quality assurance.

Our work at the Fisheries Commission is guided by MoFA’s policies and regulations, and we also provide valuable feedback to MoFA to inform future policies.

The Fisheries Commission was established under the Fisheries Act, 2002 (Act 625) to regulate and manage fisheries, the development of the fishing industry, and related matters.

The Fisheries Commission under MoFA is headed by the Executive Director, with the support of two Deputy Executive Directors (Deputy Executive Director, Technical and Deputy Executive Director, General Services).

Other line Directors, head regional offices across the various Aquaculture and Marine sector regions.

Mandate
