Fishermen at Kete Krachi a fishing community in the Krachi West District in Oti Region ,are accusing officials at the Fisheries and Aquaculture Ministry of selling premix fuel on partisan basis .
There has been a shortage of premix fuel in the various coastal towns of the country for some time now which fishermen lament is affecting them negatively.
They say officials in charge of selling the premix fuel ,sell it mostly to pro-NPP fishermen who hoard and sell the product at an inflated price thus creating the shortage.
They further alleged that some members of the premix committee sell the premix fuel at exorbitant prices to fishermen who had no choice than to buy them at such high prices.
one of the affected fishermen speaking to Agriwatchgh ,complained that the continuity of the alleged practice can cause confusion between the fisherfolk because the huge deficit of the product in the area was kicking many out of business as they were unable to fish in the deep seas for a good catch.
They also added that the situation sometimes compelled them to resort to petrol and engine oil at a higher cost.
The fishermen also complained about unavailability of outboard motors saying, for almost two years now, they had not been supplied with outboard motors.
They are however calling on the government and the ministry of fisheries to come to their aid.
