The Bono Regional Directorate of Agriculture has projected maize production of 1.2 million metric tonnes for the 2026 crop season, citing favourable rainfall and improved farming conditions across the region.
Mr Patrick Dela Newman, Bono Regional Director of Agriculture, said the region was on course to meet, and potentially exceed, the target following what he described as a good rainfall pattern throughout the season.
Speaking in an interview, Mr Newman said the Directorate was satisfied with maize production during the major cropping season so far, noting that farmers had not encountered any major challenges that could significantly affect yields.
He commended farmers across the region for their hard work and commitment to maize production.
Meanwhile, Mr Bright Ebedi, Monitoring and Evaluation and Budget Officer at the Bono Regional Directorate of Agriculture, said the projected output was expected to come from approximately 434,725.73 hectares of maize farms.
He identified the Wenchi Municipality, Sunyani West and Tain District as the major maize-producing areas in the region.
According to him, farmers in these areas were expected to achieve an average yield of about 2.75 metric tonnes of maize per hectare.
The projection, he said, reflected the region’s strong maize production potential and the favourable conditions recorded during the 2026 cropping season.
