Ghana and Germany have reaffirmed their enduring diplomatic and economic partnership, with Germany announcing a €65 million development cooperation package for 2025, pending approval by the German Parliament.
The announcement was made by German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier during a joint press briefing with President John Dramani Mahama at the Jubilee House in Accra. The new funding will target priority sectors such as healthcare, agriculture, job creation, and renewable energy—areas both nations view as critical to sustainable development.
Speaking through an interpreter, President Steinmeier noted that the commitment reflects Germany’s continued dedication to Ghana’s growth and stability.
“We bring good news today. Germany will once again commit more than 65 million euros to Ghana under our development cooperation framework. The details will be finalized before the end of this month,” he stated.
President Mahama expressed appreciation for Germany’s long-standing support and emphasized the importance of deepening collaboration in trade, renewable energy, vocational training, and regional peacebuilding. He assured the German delegation, which included investors and development partners, of his government’s commitment to creating a stable, business-friendly environment that fosters sustainable private sector growth.
“Our government remains focused on resetting the economy and creating the right conditions for businesses to thrive,” President Mahama said, referencing his “Resetting Ghana” agenda as a blueprint for economic recovery and resilience.
The two leaders also discussed a potential labour mobility agreement aimed at facilitating structured employment opportunities for young Ghanaian professionals in Germany. The initiative seeks to address Germany’s skills shortages in key industries while expanding career pathways for Ghana’s youth.
President Mahama described the initiative as “a new chapter of practical cooperation,” one that strengthens people-to-people connections and advances shared prosperity between both nations.
President Steinmeier’s three-day official visit marks a significant milestone in Ghana–Germany relations, which date back to the establishment of diplomatic ties in 1957. The visit underscores Germany’s growing interest in Ghana’s transformation agenda and positions both countries as strategic partners in promoting sustainable development and regional stability.
