Ghana’s economy maintained a steady expansion in October 2025, with overall economic activity growing by 3.8% year-on-year, driven largely by strong performance in the services sector.
According to the Monthly Indicator of Economic Growth (MIEG) released by the Ghana Statistical Service, the expansion reflects broad-based improvement across key sectors of the economy, even as growth remains uneven.
The MIEG, which tracks short-term movements in economic activity, showed that the index rose to 112.7 in October 2025, compared with 108.6 in October 2024, confirming sustained recovery momentum at the aggregate level.
Services dominate growth
Sectoral data indicate that the services sector was the main engine of growth, expanding by 5.5% in October 2025. The sector accounted for about 74.7% of total economic growth, underlining its dominant role in driving economic activity.
Trade, telecommunications, transport, hospitality, and other service-related activities continued to support the sector’s strong performance.
The industry sector recorded a growth rate of 3.0%, contributing 28.7% to overall economic expansion. The improvement was supported by gains in manufacturing and other industrial activities, reflecting gradual strengthening in productive capacity.
Meanwhile, agriculture grew by 0.9%, contributing 1.3% to overall growth. Although positive, the relatively modest performance of the sector suggests lingering structural and seasonal challenges.
