A high-level Presidential Dialogue aimed at outlining government’s roadmap for economic recovery and private sector growth was held on Monday 23rd February, 2026 in Accra, bringing together key government officials, captains of industry and policy stakeholders.
The event, convened under the leadership of H:E President John Dramani Mahama provided a platform for direct engagement between government and the business community on measures being implemented to stabilize and revitalize the economy.
The President also used the platform to announce that Cabinet will soon approve the Agribusiness Policy to drive value addition and Industrial growth.
“We must work to make Ghana West Africa’s production hub,” the President emphasised, urging businesses to leverage the country’s hosting of the Secretariat of the African Continental Free Trade Area Secretariat to expand trade, industrialisation and regional competitiveness.
Addressing participants, the Minister for Trade, Agribusiness and Industry, Hon. Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, outlined a comprehensive strategy focused on revitalizing domestic production and strengthening Ghana’s industrial base. She stressed that government’s economic reset agenda places industrialization and private sector competitiveness at the center of recovery efforts.
Hon. Ofosu-Adjare, explained that her Ministry is rolling out targeted interventions to support key sectors including agribusiness, manufacturing and agro-processing.
According to the Minister, efforts are underway to expand value addition in priority commodities, reduce import dependency and create sustainable jobs, particularly for the youth.
She emphasized that Ghana must deliberately shift from a raw material exporting economy to a value-driven industrial economy.
The Trade Minister further noted that improving the business climate remains critical to unlocking growth.
She assured the business community that government is working to address regulatory bottlenecks, streamline trade facilitation processes and enhance access to finance for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), adding that stronger collaboration between government and private sector leaders would be key to restoring confidence in the economy and drive economic growth and expansion.
She also highlighted the importance of leveraging regional and continental trade opportunities to boost exports, indicating that Ghana is positioning itself to take full advantage of emerging market access prospects. “Our focus is to ensure that local industries are competitive enough to not only meet domestic demand but also expand into regional markets,” she stated, calling for sustained dialogue between policymakers and the private sector.
The Minister for Finance, in his remarks, outlined key fiscal and macroeconomic measures aimed at restoring stability. He pointed to ongoing efforts to improve revenue mobilization, rationalize expenditure and strengthen investor confidence, noting that fiscal discipline remains central to economic recovery while urging the Private sector players to translate the economic gains to the benefit of the consumer. Participants at the Dialogue welcomed the frank and open engagement, describing it as timely and necessary.
In a brief remark the Minister for Government Communications Hon. Felix kwakye Ofosu, stated that the Presidential Dialogue forms part of government’s broader strategy to deepen collaboration with the private sector and ensure that economic policies reflect the realities of businesses and households across the country.
