The Minister for Food and Agriculture (MoFA), Hon. Eric Opoku (MP) has presented 40,000 bags of fertilizers to some Regions and Constituencies in the country.
The beneficiaries included, Volta Region with 20,000 bags, Oti Region with 10,000, 5,000 bags for Peasant Farmers, Ayawaso West Wuogon Constituency with 1,000 bags, Afram Plains North Constituency 1,000 bags , Afram Plains South Constituency 1,000 bags , Jirapa Constituency 500 bags, Bia West Constituency 500 bags and Sekyere Afram Plains Constituency also had 1,000 bags.
Presenting the fertilizers, the Minister noted that the 40,000 bags of fertilizers were donated by the Kingdom of Morocco through Ghana’s Foreign Affairs Ministry to Ghanaian farmers across the country.
“We have kept the items only for a few days. Everything must leave today through you to the farmers,” the Minister stressed. “No diversion. The fertilizers must go directly to the farmers so they can increase production.”
He reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to transparency and accountability, stating, “Not a single bag was kept by the Ministry. Everything has been distributed. The responsibility now shifts to you, their representatives”
Mr. Opoku warned against any attempt to commercialize the donation, stressing that the fertilizers were strictly for free distribution.
“We don’t want anybody to sell them, it was donated because of the farmers, and it must be given to them free of charge,”he cautioned.
He also announced that an additional 25,000 bags would soon be dispatched to the Upper East, Upper West, North East, and Savannah Regions.
He said the move formed part of the government’s broader effort to support farmers, boost food production, and sustain agricultural development amid rising input costs and food security concerns.
Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, the Volta Regional Minister, Mr James Guru, expressed gratitude to MoFA, and the Moroccan government for the kind gesture of support to the farmers.
He assured the distribution would not be done on political considerations, but to all farmers to boost agricultural productivity.
Hon. James Guru noted the overwhelming institutional interest from youth, traditional leaders, churches, schools, and cooperatives in the Feed Ghana programme.
“This is a project that resonates very well with our people, everyone is getting involved, from our regional house of chiefs to senior high schools,” he stated.
He also stressed the importance of strict monitoring to prevent diversion of the fertilizers.
“There will be records, there will be follow-ups. The farmers are the real beneficiaries, and we are committed to ensuring the fertilizers reach them directly,” he affirmed.
