Qualiplast Ghana Limited has partnerered Agrihouse Foundation as sponsors of the 9th edition of the Agricultural Students’ Career Guidance and Mentorship Dialogue Bootcamp (AG-STUD Africa), innovation pitch competition, scheduled for June 15–19, 2026.
The partnership marks a major step in promoting practical agricultural innovation among students and young agripreneurs while addressing one of Ghana’s critical agricultural challenges, post-harvest losses caused by poor packaging, transportation, and storage systems.
As part of the sponsorship package, Qualiplast Limited has introduced a challenge themed: “Agricultural Packaging for Reduced Losses and Improved Value Chains,” which will serve as the focal problem statement for this year’s student pitch competition.
The challenge invites participating students and teams to develop practical, innovative, and scalable plastic-based packaging solutions capable of improving Ghana’s agricultural value chain while reducing losses experienced by farmers, traders, processors, and agribusinesses.
According to the challenge brief, several agricultural products including tomatoes, peppers, onions, grains, cassava products, fish, poultry products, fruits, and processed foods suffer extensive damage before reaching consumers due to inadequate handling and poor packaging systems. These losses often lead to reduced product quality, contamination, moisture exposure, spoilage, lower market value, and financial losses for value chain actors.
Through the competition, students will be encouraged to identify specific agricultural packaging challenges within farming, transportation, processing, storage, or distribution systems and propose innovative solutions that are practical, affordable, reusable, and market-ready.
Participants may explore ideas including:
– Reusable transport packaging systems
– Improved storage solutions
– Preservation innovations
– Sustainable packaging alternatives
– Multi-purpose handling solutions
– Farm-to-market transport systems
– Packaging for agro-processing products
The competition will evaluate students based on creativity, innovation, practicality, understanding of the agricultural problem, presentation quality, and the potential impact of their solutions on Ghana’s agricultural sector.
Speaking on the partnership, the Executive Director of Agrihouse Foundation, Alberta Nana Akyaa Akosa noted that the sponsorship by Qualiplast Limited aligns strongly with the Foundation’s commitment to empowering young people through practical problem-solving, innovation, agribusiness mentorship, and industry collaboration.
She emphasized that AG-STUD Africa continues to provide students with opportunities to bridge classroom knowledge with real industry challenges while developing solutions capable of creating long-term impact within Ghana’s food systems and agricultural economy.
One of the unique opportunities attached to the competition is the possibility for outstanding concepts to move beyond the classroom stage. Qualiplast Ghana Limited has indicated that scalable and innovative ideas with strong market potential could attract further interest for feasibility studies, development, possible investment, and local production consideration.
“Agrihouse Foundation believes the partnership with Qualiplast Ghana Limited will not only inspire creativity among students but also contribute meaningfully toward reducing post-harvest losses, strengthening agricultural value chains, and promoting sustainable agribusiness innovation in Ghana,” Alberta said.
The Executive Director further indicated that, the 9th AG-STUD Africa Bootcamp is expected to bring together students from agricultural colleges, universities, technical institutions, and early-stage agribusiness across the country alongside agribusiness professionals, development partners, policymakers, and private sector stakeholders.
AG-STUD Africa remains one of Ghana’s leading agricultural mentorship and career development platforms dedicated to preparing the next generation of agrifood leaders, innovators, and entrepreneurs.
