Two start-up giants Agrico Hub and the Ghana Tech Lab, has held a summit in Techiman for six identified start-ups to present prototypes of their technological innovations.
This was after six weeks of intensive digital media training for young people in the Techiman Municipality.
The summit dubbed ‘Digital Media for Business and Job Creation in this era’ was supported by the Communication Ministry, Master Card Foundation’s Young Africa Works Initiative and World Bank under the Pathways to Sustainable Employment (PaSE) Programme.
The program was held at the Driver Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) conference room on Thursday.
George K. Antwi, the CEO of Agrico Hub, explained that “the summit was a unique opportunity for start-ups to pitch their innovative business ideas to industry leaders, investors, and potential new customers.
“It offered an unpretentious environment where they can learn from your mistakes and get vital feedback”.
He added, “the Hub based in Techiman seeks to train and equip young entrepreneurs especially those in Agriculture, Trade & Commerce and Agro-based IT innovation within the Bono East Region with training, incubation, networking and funding opportunities needed to boost help them become leading entrepreneurs in Ghana”.
The summit brought together judges and participants that are the best breed of entrepreneurs, innovators, local investors, venture capitalists, business model creators, consultants, policy-makers, academicians, support groups, business coaches and business practitioners who graced the event and provided innovative advice, share their insights and practices to the start-ups.
The groups presented their ideas through PowerPoint presentations and were assessed by three judges, and two teams emerged as the winners.
‘Jakay’ won the judges’ hearts with a website developed to serve as an intermediate to farmers and consumers in the Bono East Region and beyond.
Team ‘On Spot’ came up with a designed web app and website to help businesses in the Bono East Region expand their market reach by advertising on the platform.
Both teams walked away with cash prizes.
Eunice Baah Damoah, the Project Lead of Agrico Hub, said, “the Hub and Ghana Tech Lab would pass the teams through intensive incubation to receive the technical support needed to grow and develop their innovative ideas and businesses”.
