The Deputy Minister of Food and Agriculture, and MP for Ayawaso West Wuagon, Hon. John Dumelo has stated that this year’s National Farmers’ Day Food and Agricultural Fair and Exhibition is unique from previous years due to the inclusion of universities and Agric colleges .

Speaking with AgriWatchgh News, after the research and innovation session , the Deputy Minister said the addition of students in this year’s Food and Agricultural Fair and Exhibitions has not only provided research findings for decision making but also produced innovations out of those findings that will help  solve real problems in the agricultural sector put the sector on the path that will secure the country’s food systems.

“But all in all I think the most fascinating thing is the fact that we invited the universities to come and showcase their research work and activities that they have done over the years”

The Deputy Minister called for the establishment of a department or an authority that will see to converting academic work or research carried by these institutions into real invention that will help the sector thrive.

“Going forward we have to set up a desk or department or an authority that will help to convert findings from academia into something visible because I have seen these institutions done something special which we must help them do more to help the industry.”

Some universities that participated in the 41st Food and Agricultural Fair and Exhibitions are the University of Ghana, University of Cape Coast, University of Development Studies, Ho Technical University, University of Energy and Natural Resources and among others.

The Deputy Agric Minister being led by Ms. Alberta Nana Akyaa Akosa inspected the various products exhibited across the agricultural value chain, and commended Agrihouse Foundation for putting in the work once again in organizing this year’s Food and Agricultural Fair and Exhibitions.
