82-year-old seasoned farmer, Opanin Abraham Kwaku Adusei from Kwahu Afram Plains in the Eastern Region, has been honoured as the Overall National Best Farmer for 2025 in recognition of his outstanding dedication and contribution to Ghana’s agricultural development.
The award, which recognises excellence, productivity and innovation in farming, highlighted decades of commitment by Opanin Adusei and demonstrated that age remains no barrier to excellence in agriculture. In recognition of his achievement, he received a prize package that included GH¢1.2 million in cash, a brand-new tractor with implements, mechanisation tools, a motorised sprayer, assorted agro-inputs and a commemorative plaque, all aimed at supporting and sustaining his farming operations.
Speaking after receiving his award, Opanin Adusei expressed profound gratitude for the honour, describing it as a motivation to continue giving his best to the nation’s agricultural growth. He pledged to redouble his efforts in promoting farming as a viable and rewarding profession, emphasising that the future of Ghana depends largely on the productivity and welfare of its farmers.
He assured that he would work closely with the government and the Ministry of Food and Agriculture to support policies and programmes aimed at boosting production, improving access to farm inputs, and strengthening support systems for smallholder farmers.
Opanin Adusei also encouraged other farmers to remain committed, disciplined, and innovative, noting that consistent hard work and proper farm practices can transform agriculture and significantly improve the livelihoods of farming communities.
He appealed to stakeholders to continue supporting farmers, saying that with the right encouragement and infrastructural support, Ghana can achieve food security and reduce its dependence on food imports.
The celebration also honoured other farmers who delivered exceptional performance in their regions. Mr. Osumanu Kadri, 48, of the Greater Accra Region was named First Runner-Up National Best Farmer, while Mr. Charles Jato, 63, of the Oti Region took the Second Runner-Up position.
The event further recognised efforts of young and female farmers, awarding Mr. Reuben Asare of Kintampo North District in the Bono East Region as the National Best Youth Farmer and Madam Grace Owusua of Ashanti Akyem North District in the Ashanti Region as the National Best Female Farmer.
