Corteva announced two crop protection solutions to combat insect damage and protect crop yields are on the horizon.
“Innovation is at the core of our crop protection business and today’s announcement further advances our global leadership,” said Robert King, executive vice president, crop protection, for Corteva, in a news release. “These new insect management solutions complement our existing portfolio of leading biological and insecticide products and will help farmers better manage costly insect damage while supporting our vision of providing more sustainable solutions, improving farmer productivity and strengthening global food security.”
Goltrevo
This novel bioinsecticide aims to target some sap-feeding insects, such as corn leafhoppers, whiteflies, and aphids, and chewing insects, such as root-feeding worms. The product is designed for use in a variety of crops, including corn, soybeans, fruits, and vegetables. Growers may see a longer shelf life and reduced potential for resistance development.
Commercial sales for Goltrevo are anticipated to begin in 2027 for Latin America, pending regulatory approval. Corteva anticipates U.S. availability in the early 2030s.
Varpelgo
This product aims to offer control of chewing insects in key crops, such as corn, soybeans, rice, fruits, and vegetables. Corteva also plans for the product to offer a new seed-applied technology for early season protection against wireworms. Varpelgo will offer a low use rate and a favorable ecological profile to fit within integrated pest management programs.
Commercial sales are expected in Asia Pacific and Latin America in the early 2030s, pending field trial completions and applicable regulatory reviews. U.S. availability is to follow.
