The Boost to Bloom Project from Agrihouse Foundation continues to take practical vegetable production training to communities across Northern Ghana, creating opportunities for young people and farmers to gain the knowledge and skills needed to improve production and explore new opportunities within agriculture.
The Project forms part of AGRA’s long-term outcome of boosting the production and competitiveness of horticultural crops to meet local demand while creating economic opportunities for youth, especially women in Northern Ghana.
On Tuesday, September 8, 2026, the team continued its community outreach in the Sawla Tuna Kalba District of the Savannah Region, engaging young people and farmers in practical training on vegetable production. The session focused on nursery establishment and seedling production, land preparation and field establishment, transplanting, appropriate fertilizer application, and good agronomic practices for vegetable production.
As the training progressed, participants had the opportunity to ask questions and gain a better understanding of different aspects of vegetable production. For some of the young participants, the experience was also an introduction to things they had never encountered before. Some had never seen onion seeds before, making the training an opportunity to deepen their understanding of vegetable production.
The lessons moved from the early stages of production to field establishment and crop management, giving participants a clearer understanding of how proper practices at each stage can contribute to better vegetable production. They also learnt about the importance of appropriate fertilizer application and good agronomic practices in managing their crops effectively.
For the young people involved, the training was therefore not only about learning how to grow vegetables. It was about developing practical skills and opening their minds to the possibilities that exist within agriculture. With the right knowledge, a young person can venture into vegetable farming, produce for the market, start a small agribusiness or provide services to other farmers.
