The Chief Fire Officer (CFO) of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) Daniella Mawusi Ntow Sarpong, has launched the 2026/2027 national bushfire prevention campaign at Atebubu in the Bono East Region.
The campaign is on the theme: “Bushfire prevention: a collective action for sustainable environmental development and greener Ghana.”
At a ceremony at Atebubu, CFO Sarpong indicated that although the cases of fire outbreaks in the country had decreased in 2026, there was the need for concerted efforts to bring the outbreaks to the barest minimum.
CFO Ntow indicated that comparatively, the 631 cases of fire outbreaks recorded nationwide from January to August 2025 were reduced to 235 cases within the same period in 2026.
She commended personnel of the GNFS and fire volunteers for their dedication towards fighting fire outbreaks in the country.
CFO Sarpong commended President John Dramani Mahama and Alhaji Muntaka Mubarak, the Minister of the Interior, for their commitment towards resourcing the GNFS to deliver on its mandate.
Mr Francis Owusu Antwi, the Bono East Regional Minister, reaffirmed the commitment of the Bono East Regional Coordinating Council towards fighting bushfires in the region.
He called on all stakeholders to join the campaign to yield desirable and useful outcomes in the region.
Nana Owusu Sakyi III, the Paramount Chief of Bassa Traditional Area and President of Bono East Regional House of Chiefs advised everybody, especially farmers and agri-business enterprises to support the GNFS in preventing bushfires.
