Executive Director of the Agrihouse Foundation, Alberta Nana Akyaa Akosa has proposed that government should consider institutionalizing July 1 of every year, as Ghana Poultry Day.
Ms. Akosa made this appeal, yesterday, at the launch of the third edition of the Ghana Chicken Festival, annually organized by the Foundation.
In a welcome address, the Executive Director, emphasized the importance of the poultry industry to the country’s economy, alongside the integral contributions of all actors in the poultry sector.
She said it was imperative for government to design policies, and join forces with stakeholders, to design interventional projects that scale-up the efforts of poultry farmers.
She further urged poultry farmers in the country to strengthen collaborations among themselves, encouraging them to mobilize in ways that help to them to access credit facilities, improve poultry health management, and provide training and support for farmers and producers.
“The poultry industry is a significant contributor to Ghana’s economy, providing jobs and income for thousands of Ghanaians. The Ghana Chicken Festival would provide an opportunity to showcase the potential of local chicken,” she said.
She emphasized that local chicken is a valuable source of protein, which is necessary for multiple body functions, and that increased patronage of local chicken would have a positive impact on job creation and the country’s economy.
Ms. Akosa’s call to action has received support from various quarters, including poultry farmers and industry experts, who believe that such recognition would help to raise awareness about the industry’s importance and motivate more people to invest in it.
Speaking at the launch the President of the Ghana National Poultry Farmers Association, who also doubles as the Chairperson for the 3rd Ghana chicken festival, Victor Oppong Adjei, commended Agrihouse Foundation for their initiative in organizing the Ghana Chicken Festival.
The festival aims to promote and market local chicken, which will result in sustainable growth in the poultry industry, creating more job opportunities and having a positive impact on Ghana’s economy.
He praised the Agrihouse Foundation’s efforts in organizing the festival, emphasizing the importance of promoting local chicken to achieve sustainable developmental growth in the poultry industry.
He highlighted the potential for the Poultry industry’s rapid expansion through the festival’s promotion and marketing of local chicken, which could create more jobs and have a positive impact on the economy.
