The Savannah Region is set to host Ghana’s premier gathering of women in agriculture as the 8th Women in Food and Agricultural Leadership Training Forum and Expo (WOFAGRIC) and the Gold in the Soil Awards take place from Wednesday, July 22 to Thursday, July 23, 2026, at the Damango Senior High School Assembly Hall.
Organized by Agrihouse Foundation, this year’s edition will be held under the theme: “Closing the Gender Gap: Empowering Rural Women Farmers Through Equitable Access to Financial, Mechanization, Agricultural Inputs and Extension Services.”
The two-day national event is expected to bring together about 1,000 women farmers, farmers with disabilities, agribusiness owners, processors, marketers, policymakers, development partners, financial institutions, agricultural input dealers, traditional authorities, and key stakeholders from across Ghana.
The event seeks to address the persistent challenges facing rural women farmers while creating practical opportunities to improve their access to finance, mechanization services, quality agricultural inputs, extension services, markets, and leadership opportunities.
This year’s WOFAGRIC and Gold in the Soil Awards is proudly headlined by Global Affairs Canada, whose unwavering support over the past eight years has contributed significantly to transforming the livelihoods of rural women farmers across Ghana. Through this enduring partnership, thousands of women have benefited from leadership training, mentorship, agribusiness development, market linkages, recognition, and opportunities that have enabled many to grow from smallholder farmers into successful agripreneurs, agro-processors, exporters, and employers.
The programme will feature high-level panel discussions, technical training sessions, business exhibitions, networking opportunities, mentorship engagements, agribusiness showcases, and the prestigious Gold in the Soil Awards, which recognizes exceptional women making remarkable contributions across the agricultural value chain.
Expected to grace the occasion are the Minister for Food and Agriculture, representatives of Global Affairs Canada, Yara Ghana, the Savannah Regional Minister, development partners, traditional leaders, and other distinguished guests who continue to champion inclusive agricultural development and women’s economic empowerment.
A major highlight of the event will be the Gold in the Soil Awards ceremony, where outstanding women from across Ghana will be honoured for their innovation, resilience, leadership, and impact in agriculture. The awards continue to celebrate women who are transforming agriculture through farming, processing, agribusiness, marketing, value addition, and community leadership, while also recognizing the invaluable contributions of women farmers with disabilities.
Speaking ahead of the event, the Executive Chair for Agrihouse Foundation, Alberta Nana Akyaa Akosa noted that, hosting this year’s edition in the Savannah Region reflects the region’s growing importance to Ghana’s agricultural transformation agenda and offers an opportunity to spotlight the immense contribution of rural women to national food security and economic development.
She further indicated that WOFAGRIC has, over the past eight years, become more than an annual event. It has evolved into a national platform that equips women with practical skills, strengthens businesses, builds confidence, facilitates market access, and inspires a new generation of women to view agriculture as a profitable and sustainable enterprise.
Stakeholders, development partners, financial institutions, agribusinesses, farmer groups, and members of the public are encouraged to participate in this landmark event and join the national conversation on creating a more inclusive and resilient agricultural sector.
