The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in Akropong-Akuapem has led a tree-planting exercise at the newly constructed Circuit/High Court premises, using the event to highlight growing climate risks and gaps in local environmental enforcement.
The exercise, held to mark World Environment Day under the theme “Building a Climate Resilient Ghana through Responsible Stewardship,” brought together students, traditional leaders, and community members.
Mr John Evans Kumordzi, Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Akuapem North, highlighted the intensifying impact of climate change, stressing the need for stronger enforcement of environmental laws to curb what he described as “irreversible effects.”
He called for sustained public awareness and collective responsibility, urging communities to adopt proactive measures to protect the environment.
Mr Sammi Awuku, Member of Parliament for Akuapem North, underscored the global scale of the climate challenge and its direct consequences on livelihoods and development, noting that local responses remained critical.
He cited the Ofie Market and greenhouse farming initiatives as examples of community-driven solutions addressing climate pressures.
Both leaders called on individuals, institutions, and traditional authorities to scale up tree-planting and conservation efforts.
They emphasised that safeguarding the environment requires consis3waz\tent action and adherence to constitutional and ethical responsibilities.
The initiative forms part of broader efforts to strengthen climate resilience in Akuapem North while promoting long-term environmental stewardship.
