A delegation of ten women-led businesses from The Gambia is currently in Ghana for a week-long study tour under the SheTrades Commonwealth+ Programme, aimed at exploring the country’s vibrant handicraft and fashion industries.
As part of their visit, the delegation paid a courtesy call on the CEO of the Ghana Export Promotion Authority (GEPA), Francis Kojo Kwarteng Arthur, at the Africa Trade House in Accra. The engagement provided an opportunity to discuss trade collaboration and the empowerment of women entrepreneurs in international markets.
Mr. Arthur reaffirmed GEPA’s commitment to fostering inclusive trade, emphasizing the Authority’s dedication to creating export opportunities that enable women entrepreneurs to thrive. He expressed optimism about the potential partnerships and long-term impact of the initiative.
Speaking on behalf of the delegation, Fatou Mbenga Jallow, Senior Advisor at the International Trade Centre (ITC), extended congratulations to Mr. Arthur on his appointment and expressed gratitude for GEPA’s continuous support. She highlighted the delegation’s enthusiasm for strengthening business linkages between Gambian and Ghanaian entrepreneurs.
The study tour, organized by the ITC in collaboration with GEPA and The Gambia’s Ministry of Trade, Industry, Regional Integration & Employment (MOTIE), features field visits, business-to-business (B2B) engagements, and knowledge-sharing sessions. Participants will have the opportunity to visit Ghana’s top production hubs and connect with key industry stakeholders, fostering cross-border trade and investment opportunities.
This initiative is expected to deepen trade relations between Ghana and The Gambia, unlocking new avenues for women entrepreneurs to scale their businesses in regional and global markets.
