Hon. Abla Dzifa Gomashie, Member of Parliament for Ketu South Constituency and Minister of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, has supported farmers in the municipality with 2,000 bags of 60kg fertilizer to boost agricultural production.
The intervention also included the distribution of streetlights to communities to augment security within the various traditional areas.
Each of the three traditional areas in the Ketu South Municipality received 100 bags of fertilizer and 10 boxes of streetlights for distribution within their respective traditional areas.
The remaining fertilizer was distributed among farmers across the municipality, with each of the 41 wards receiving 15 bags, while each zone received 28 bags.
Speaking during the presentation, Madam Gomashie said she had previously supported individual farmers with fertilizer, describing the latest intervention as the second time she had undertaken such a large-scale distribution.
She said her approach to development was guided by the principle, “Teach me how to fish but don’t just give me fish,” stressing the importance of farming as a means of skills development and economic empowerment.
“I will support farming as I have been supporting skills training in tailoring, hairdressing, phone repairs and others,” she said.
The MP described the fertilizer support as an investment in families, explaining that strengthening agricultural production could contribute to household incomes and the local economy.
She said farm produce benefited not only individual farmers but could also support families through food production, income generation and other economic activities.
Madam Gomashie also provided an undisclosed amount of money to assist beneficiaries with the transportation of the fertilizer to their homes and communities.
On the streetlights, she said the items were intended to augment security in the various traditional areas, particularly as their annual festival celebrations approached.
She said improved lighting would enhance visibility and security during the festivities and other community activities.
The beneficiaries expressed appreciation to the MP and pledged to put the fertilizer and streetlights to their intended use.
