Founder and Executive Director of the Agrihouse Foundation, Alberta Nana Akyaa Akosa, has thrown more light on her foundation and how they are helping women in the agri-business.
She was interviewed on the “African Women’s Voices” Show with host, Eunice Tornyi on eTV Ghana where she explained that the Agrihouse Foundation is a foundation that is basically into agriculture intervention projects.
She detailed that what the foundation tries to do is to breach the gap between farmers and their market, and try to make farmers happy which is the main priority. The foundation also attracts more people within the sector to create market linkages between the farmers and the buyers as well as tries to support beginners to appreciate the role they could play within the value chain when it comes to agriculture.
With this, she noted that there are different projects or interventions targeting it like the Agric Students’ Career Guidance and Mentorship Dialogue which is a bootcamp that is held for Agric colleges and beginner agri-businesses across the country for five days.
“We also have the Livestock, Poultry and Fisheries Training and Trade Show where we train people who want to go into poultry farming, yoghurt processing, cattle, sheep and all that, and we also try to have exhibitions within the animal cultural value chain for people to appreciate what the sector is and also patronize products of companies that are already within the space and identify where the gaps are for them to play a role within”, she said.
Moving on, she mentioned that, “We have the Agri-woman Market-place where we support women processors and farmers. It happens once in a month and we have these women come together to sell foodstuff really fresh and cheap. We also have the one household, one garden initiative where we support homes to set up backyard gardens”.
Another one of these many projects according to her, is the pre-harvest agri-business event where they link small holder farmers or commercial farmers to buyers and companies who are seeking to basically offer services to farmers.
“Finally, we have the Gold in the soil awards where we award women who have done extremely well in the agricultural space”, she concluded.
The Agrihouse Foundation is fully dedicated to helping women in agriculture, and generally grow the agri-business industry in Ghana.
