The 42nd edition of the National Farmers’ Day Celebration has been officially launched at the forecourt of the Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MoFA). This year’s main event is slated for Friday, December 4, 2026, and will be hosted in Sunyani, the capital of the Bono Region.
This year’s celebration is guided by the theme: “Our Farmers, Our Food, Our Future.” The theme underscores the national desire to recognize the invaluable contributions of farmers, fishers, processors, extension officers, researchers, and agribusiness actors who continually sacrifice to sustain Ghana’s food systems and strengthen the economy.
Delivering the keynote address at the launch, the Minister of Food and Agriculture, Hon. Eric Opoku, emphasized that Farmers’ Day is far more than a routine agricultural event; it is a fundamental celebration of national life.
“Every grain of rice, every tuber of yam, every basket of tomatoes, every crate of eggs, every kilogram of fish, every liter of milk, and every cocoa pod is a product of labor, patience, risk, and hope,” Hon. Opoku extolled. “Behind the food on our tables is a farmer who woke up before sunrise. Behind our markets is a fisher who faced the sea. Behind our agro-industries is a producer who believed that Ghana could feed itself and feed others.”

The Minister further explained that the theme reflects a core national philosophy: Ghana’s development will not be imported, its food security will not be outsourced, and its future will be built on the strength of its own people, starting directly with the farmer. He reiterated the government’s commitment to transforming agriculture into an attractive, reliable, and modern sector for the youth.
As has become tradition, the National Farmers’ Day climax will be preceded by a week-long agricultural fair. This fair will feature capacity-building sessions, exhibitions, and interactive forums across all sub-sectors of the agricultural industry. The week will culminate in the grand awards ceremony on December 4 to honor farmers and fishers who have diligently worked for the betterment of the nation.
Speaking on behalf of the Minister for Fisheries and Aquaculture, (Hon. Emelia Arthur), the Ministry’s Chief Director, Dr. Hafisa Zacharia, described the event as Ghana’s premium honorary program. She noted that it serves as a critical platform to highlight the vital roles of fish farmers, processors, boat owners, and investors within the fisheries value chain in securing Ghana’s food future.

Both MoFA and the Ministry of Fisheries called upon corporate organizations, financial institutions, development partners, and the general public to contribute generously toward the organization of the event and the procurement of prizes for the award winners.
Expressing his gratitude, the Bono Regional Minister, Hon. Joseph Addae Akwaboah, thanked the organizing ministries for selecting the Bono Region to host this prestigious national milestone.

Highlighting the region’s strategic identity as one of Ghana’s major breadbaskets, Hon. Akwaboah pledged the full support of the Regional Coordinating Council and the people of the Bono Region to ensure a historic and highly successful celebration.
