The World Food Forum (WFF) Ghana Chapter has reinforced its commitment to empowering young Ghanaians to revolutionize the country’s agri-food systems through science, education, advocacy, and culture.
Speaking at the International Youth Day celebration held at Accra Academy Senior High School, Mr. Kwame Sekyere, the Project Lead for WFF Ghana Chapter, emphasized the crucial role of youth in securing a sustainable agricultural future for Ghana.
“Our mission is to equip young Ghanaians with the tools and knowledge necessary to transform our agri-food systems,” Sekyere stated. “By fostering a generation that views agriculture not just as a job, but as a strategic career choice, we aim to improve food security and drive economic growth in Ghana.”
He highlighted that agriculture, traditionally seen as an undervalued sector, is now being reimagined as a dynamic field where innovation and technology can thrive. He encouraged the youth to explore the vast opportunities within the sector, ranging from agribusiness and technology to research and environmental conservation.
“As we celebrate International Youth Day, we hope to inspire the youth to embrace agriculture as a pathway to personal success and to make significant contributions to the nation’s food security and economic resilience,” he remarked . “The future of Ghana’s agriculture depends on young people who are ready to lead, innovate, and advocate for sustainable practices.”
He also called on both the public and private sectors to support this vision by investing in youth-led agricultural initiatives and creating an enabling environment for young entrepreneurs in the field.
“We urge the community to join us in this mission by encouraging and supporting the youth to see agriculture as a viable and rewarding career choice. Together, we can build a resilient agricultural sector that meets the needs of today and anticipates the challenges of tomorrow,” .
The WFF Ghana Chapter is dedicated to providing young Ghanaians with the necessary resources, knowledge, and platforms to make a meaningful impact in agriculture. By doing so, they aim to create a future where agriculture plays a central role in Ghana’s development, ensuring the country can feed itself sustainably and contribute to global food security.
