Absa Bank Ghana has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting small businesses by donating GH¢150,000 to traders affected by the devastating fire that swept through the Kantamanto Market on January 2. The donation includes GH¢100,000 in cash and GH¢50,000 worth of roofing sheets to aid the rebuilding efforts of the market.
The presentation ceremony, held at the Kantamanto Market, brought together officials from Absa Bank and representatives of the market’s various trading associations.
Speaking at the event, Kobla Nyaletey, Executive Director of Retail and Business Banking at Absa Bank Ghana, expressed his heartfelt sympathy to the traders for their losses and emphasized the bank’s dedication to supporting their recovery. He announced three key initiatives for the traders: with included a total donation package of GH¢150,000, Access to loans at a preferential 10% interest rate and Plans to establish an Absa presence within the Kantamanto Market to facilitate seamless transactions.
Audrey Abakah, Director of SME, Agency Banking, and Partnerships at Absa Bank, reiterated the bank’s commitment to empowering businesses with innovative financial solutions. “As a bank focused on empowering Africa’s tomorrow, we felt compelled to act. We met with executives of the Second-Hand Used Clothing Association to offer this donation and present tailored financial packages for wholesalers and traders,” she stated.
Dr. Joseph Obeng, President of the Ghana Union of Traders Association (GUTA), expressed gratitude for Absa Bank’s swift intervention. “We thank Absa for listening to our cry and providing this vital support. Once again, the bank has proven to be a true friend of traders. We will use the funds to rebuild Kantamanto and restore livelihoods,” he said.
