The Akatsi South Municipal Assembly has intensified efforts to boost agriculture and household incomes through targeted interventions, including the distribution of poultry inputs under the ‘Akoko Nkitinkiti’ programme.
Mr. Daniel Dagba, Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Akatsi South, said the Assembly had received 10,000 day-old chicks, 454 bags of 50kg poultry feed, and other essential logistics to support the brooding and initial management of the birds.
Mr. Dagba announced this in a Sessional Address delivered at the First Ordinary Meeting of the Third Session of the Assembly held in Akatsi.
He said a farmer was currently brooding the chicks, which would be distributed to 200 beneficiary households across the municipality after one month, with each household expected to receive 50 birds.
Mr. Dagba said the initiative formed part of the government’s broader efforts to improve food security, promote agribusiness, and create employment opportunities, particularly for the youth.
He noted that farmers in the municipality continued to benefit from extension services, access to improved seeds and fertilisers, as well as technical education on climate-smart agriculture through the Department of Agriculture.
Mr. Dagba encouraged residents, especially young people, to take advantage of such programmes to enhance their livelihoods and contribute to local economic growth.
Touching on other sectors, Mr. Dagba said the municipality had recorded improvements in its Internally Generated Fund (IGF), exceeding its 2025 revenue target with an actual mobilisation of GHS1,643,792.08 against a projected GHS1,399,318.50.
He said the gains had supported the settlement of outstanding debts, payment of end-of-service benefits to Assembly Members, and a reduction in salary arrears of staff paid from IGF.
In the health sector, he said the Assembly was making progress with the construction of CHPS compounds at Zuta and Ahipeado, while a similar facility at Asafotsi had been completed and would soon be operational.
Mr. Dagba further said several classroom blocks were at various stages of completion across the municipality to improve access to quality education.
He reiterated the Assembly’s commitment to improving road infrastructure, water supply, and social protection programmes to enhance living conditions.
He also called for continued collaboration among stakeholders to sustain development and build a more prosperous municipality.
