The Fiapre Circuit Court in the Sunyani West Municipality has granted bail of GH¢10,000 each to four individuals accused of smuggling cocoa beans from Côte d’Ivoire into Ghana.
The suspects were arrested in April at Nkrankwanta in the Dormaa West Municipality by the Anti-Smuggling Unit of the Ghana Cocoa Board, working in collaboration with security agencies. They were intercepted while transporting a truck carrying over 100 bags of cocoa beans.
Speaking to the media in Sunyani, Bono Regional Minister Joseph Addae Akwaboa confirmed the development but did not disclose the identities of the accused persons. He indicated that they are expected to return to court on May 13, 2026.
He further noted that the suspects have been instructed to report to the Nkrankwanta Police Station weekly to assist ongoing investigations.
Mr Akwaboa reiterated government’s firm commitment to safeguarding the integrity of Ghana’s cocoa industry and curbing illegal cross-border trade.
