In a celebration of excellence and agricultural achievements, Agrihouse Foundation has successfully launched its highly anticipated fifth annual Women in Food and Agricultural Leadership Training Forum (WOFAGRIC) and Gold in the Soil Awards in the Eastern Region.
The event brought together esteemed agriculturalists, farmers, processors, government officials, stakeholders, and queen mothers to recognize outstanding contributions to the agricultural sector.
The WOFAGRIC and Gold in the Soil Awards aims to honour individuals and organizations that have demonstrated exceptional commitment, innovation, and success in the field of agriculture within the Eastern Region. The awards celebrate excellence in various categories, recognizing achievements in crop production, livestock farming, agribusiness, agricultural research, and sustainable farming practices.
Speaking at the launch of the fifth Annual WOFAGRIC and Gold in the Soil Awards, the Executive Director of Agrihouse Foundation, Alberta Nana Akyaa Akosa, said this year’s event would mark another milestone in Agrihouse Foundation’s ongoing commitment to promoting agricultural development in Ghana.
The two-day event scheduled for 26th to July 27th, 2023, in partnership with Global Affairs Canada ,Yara Ghana ,RDF Ghana LBG ,Ministry of Food and Agriculture,National Farmers and Fishermen Winners Association and other partners will serve as a platform to empower and honour women farmers, with a particular focus on women with disabilities who are making remarkable contributions to the agricultural sector’s growth.
“We are thrilled to launch the 5th edition of the WOFAGRIC and Gold in the Soil Awards in the Eastern Region. These awards have become a symbol of recognition and inspiration, empowering agriculturalists and farmers across the country. We believe this year’s edition will further motivate individuals and organizations to excel in their agricultural endeavours,” she said.
The winners of the fifth WOFAGRIC and Gold in the Soil Awards will receive not only prestigious accolades but also valuable incentives and support, including financial grants, access to technical assistance, and networking opportunities within the agricultural community.
These incentives aim to further empower the awardees to continue their remarkable work and inspire others in the region to pursue excellence in agriculture.
Dr. Comfort Acheampong, the Chairperson of the Planning Committee of the 5th WOFAGRIC and Gold in the Soil Awards, also spoke at the launch, emphasizing the importance of women farmers, particularly those with disabilities, and encouraging them to come out in large numbers to be recognized and empowered.
“In the agricultural sector, women have always played a crucial role, and it is essential to acknowledge their immense contributions. Our focus this year is on women farmers, including those with disabilities, who have been instrumental in driving agricultural growth in our region. We want to celebrate their resilience, innovation, and dedication,” Dr. Acheampong stated passionately.
She further highlighted the need for equal opportunities and support for women in agribusiness. Because Women have proven time and again that they can excel in farming and agribusiness. However, they often face significant barriers and inequalities. We must work together as stakeholders to create an enabling environment that supports their endeavours and provides equal access to resources, training, and financing,” she emphasized.
Dr. Acheampong also announced special initiatives that would be implemented as part of the event. “To further empower and uplift women farmers, we have planned various training sessions, workshops, and mentoring programs during the WOFAGRIC forum. Additionally, we are collaborating with financial institutions and agricultural organizations to provide targeted support and financial assistance to deserving women-led agribusiness ventures,” she added.
She urged the entire community to rally behind women in agriculture. “Let us all join hands to celebrate the achievements of our women farmers and agribusiness leaders. By recognizing their efforts and addressing the challenges they face, we can pave the way for a more inclusive and prosperous agricultural sector. Together, we can create lasting impact and ensure a sustainable future for agriculture
